POTATO GROWING

Fruitorama has purchased over 7000 acres of land in the Peebinga/Pinnaroo region and has further increased their commitment at Nalpa Station with 600 additional acres. Peebinga is located on the border of South Australia and Victoria . Our business plans to grow more pivots in 2004/2005, consisting of a wide variety of potatoes – ie. Coliban, Desiree, Ruby Lou, Kestrel, Harmony, Rioja, St John, White Lady Red Gem and many others.

Nalpa station, which is located between Langhorne Creek and Wellington , is another region which Fruitorama grows potatoes. Nalpa provides a distinct advantage during the summer months because of its cooler temperatures and is a large part of our company's research and development program.. Many trials are conducted with new varieties to ascertain the commercial viability of new varieties and to trial new growing techniques.

Our most recent addition to our land holding is at Virginia . This tightly held horticultural hub of land was purchased in 2003 and is set to deliver produce for the first time in 2004. Fruitorama has invested significant funds into the development of this land, as is testament to the permanent sprinklers and vast irrigation systems that have been installed. Virginia will enable Fruitorama to have potatoes available for customers in the spring months, which traditionally are the problematic months of supply.

The foundation of The South Australia Potato Company is its extremely diverse network of share farmers. Many of the relationships we have with our growers stem back as far as 40 years. Many of share farmers have passed their expertise onto to younger family members, who are fast becoming the new breed of Potato Farmers in South Australia . Our future is in young, enthusiastic, and very capable hands. We will continue to share farm with a number of growers for many years ahead to ensure our customers top quality potatoes throughout the entire year.
